The pH miracle diet attempts to control many different conditions in the body, including obesity, through the omission of acidifying foods and behaviors. One of the most surprising inclusions on the list, at least to Westerners, is milk. Dairy products, although a mainstay of the Western diet, are not included in the diets of most of the populations around the world. So what does the rest of the world know that we don’t? Dairy is not necessary for health; from a pH perspective, it is actually harmful to the body.

Many people believe that dairy and milk are essential for bone density and for overall health. However, dairy products have large amounts of protein and fat, which are both acid forming elements. Cow’s milk and products made from cow’s milk produce acid. Goat and sheep milk and cheeses, which have less fat and protein, produce less acid. The only dairy exception is clarified butter that is alkalizing due to the short chain fats within it.

In 2003, the Harvard School of Public Health released an alternative pyramid to the FDA recommendations based on imbalances that the members saw in the original pyramid. Although it did not mention acid and alkaline foods specifically, the pyramid shows a tendency toward alkaline foods. One of the most striking differences between the FDA pyramid and the Harvard pyramid is the inclusion of a dairy serving or calcium supplement 1 time daily. The FDA recommends 2 to 3 servings per day, in addition to dietary supplements.

      Healthy Diet – A Guide To Weight Loss

      Here are some weight loss diet tips that can be followed anywhere, everyday:

      1. Make a delicious low fat mayonnaise by combining one teaspoon of Dijon mustard or satay sauce with a low fat yogurt. 2. Do not skip meals. Skipping meals slicks the body into slowing down the metabolism, attempting to conserve calories during a period where limited fats and fuel are available. Remember that eating increases the metabolism. 3. Stuff vegetables like capsicum and zucchini with flavored fillings or minced chicken, white meat or fish. These are healthy and contain low fat. 4. Take pita bread roll ups or wraps with salad fillings. 5. Eight hours after waking up, our metabolism slows down that is why 30 minutes of exercise before dinner will increase the metabolism for about two to three hours. This produces an increase in burned fat even hours after the work out is over. 6. Add alfalfa or mung beans to salad to get extra iron. 7. Good cooking and healthy eating begins with learning about nutrition and how to prepare healthy recipes. 8. Learn how to make the family favorite recipes and make sure that fats, salt, and sugar are cut out. Substitute non-fat yogurt for cream, stir-fry without oil and use herbs and spices instead of salt to taste. 9. Consult the doctor before beginning an exercise or weight loss program. 10. Slowly eat and chew each bite during meals as this would decrease one’s appetite. 11. Complete three small meals and two snacks everyday instead of one or two huge meals. 12. Use chicken stock when stir-frying. This will cut down on hidden fat. 13. Buy non-toasted muesli instead of the toasted ones. A plate of toasted muesli contains more fat than a plate of bacon and eggs. 14. As much as possible do not remove the skins of fruits and vegetables since most of the nutrients are concentrated under the skin. 15. Warm water with just a squeeze of lemon juice before breakfast get the metabolism going for the day, this also help preventing constipation and is excellent for the skin. 16. One of the best sources of vegetable protein is from soya beans or tofu. All legumes provide some protein, so include lentils, lima beans etc into casseroles and soups. 17. Look for a weight loss “buddy,” club, or support mates. This will motivate you to stay and enjoy your weight loss program. 18. Though it’s hard at first, try not eating 3 hours or more before bedtime. 19. Make pasta a fast food choice – preparing a pasta meal or salad will only take 10-12 minutes. 20. Chilli helps to speed up metabolism – even the milder varieties. 21. Try making omelettes without adding the yolks! A dramatic decrease in fat. 22. Substitute baking soda, baking powder, MSG and soya sauce in cooking. 23. Remove fat by dropping ice cubes into the baking tray. Fat will stick to the ice cubes. 24. Drinking hot water instead of cold water in the morning can increase the speed of your metabolism and burn more calories. 25. Eat before you go food shopping and always prepare a shopping list. Only buy food which relates to your weekly menu plan and don’t be tempted to buy goodies.

      Make sure that the right discipline is still practiced to promote consistency on the diet plan. This will lead eventually to a healthy life-style and a more fruitful living without the extra fat and extra pounds on the side.

      How do I get past this weight loss plateau?

      I lost 15lbs over the course of the last 3 months averagin 1-1 1/2 lbs lost. I am 5’5" and I am now down to 142 lbs. I still want to lose another 15 lbs (is this okay?).
      I have tried eating whatever I want to jumpstart my weight loss but that did not work. Currently I am on a semi-low-carb diet. I have to have some carbs because I get too dizzy. I also work out 3-4 times a week. Cardio for 1/2 hr and then strenghening exercises.
      How can I get past this weight loss?
      The scale hasn’t budged from 142lbs in 3 weeks.

        Dieting For The Right Reasons

        When it comes to dieting, far too often we take those first steps towards weight loss bliss for what we later determine are all the wrong reasons. Ultimately however, if your reason works for you there is no truly wrong reason to diet. The trick is in finding the reason that will actually work for you.

        I’ve seen all kinds of excellent motivators when it comes to dieting and taking your dieting seriously. One of the more common reasons is to lose weight. This is as good of a reason as any. Some want to get back into the size 5 jeans they wore in high school while others would simply like to be able to look in the mirror once again without feeling guilt. For some this is a simple matter of vanity and for others it is finally managing to deal with what has become a lifelong problem. If you find the inspiration you need to be successful with your dieting this time as opposed to others, then that is the perfectly plausible and acceptable reason for you to diet.

        Other reasons for dieting include a desire to be more physically fit. Some of us have a deep and abiding desire to live as long as possible and firmly believe that the best possible method for accomplishing this goal is to live the healthiest life possible. This is another excellent reason for losing weight and getting into shape. If it works for you that is. The thing to remember is that every person is going to have to find their very own motivation deep within.

        Yet another great reason is to have the energy you need to keep up with your little ones. This is one of the most heartbreaking side effects for most when it comes to obesity. There is simply no energy left over at the end of the day to enjoy doing things with your precious little ones who are young for such a very short amount of time. You desperately want to be able to build those precious memories with them but absolutely have no energy with which to do so. If that isn’t bad enough you probably (if you are considered morbidly obese) have noticed that many of the simplest activities with your children often bring you physical pain that is the direct result of your weight.

        Revenge is a dish that is best served cold and another excellent motivator for some when it comes to dieting and taking off those pesky pounds. Losing a great deal of weight takes time in many cases so you must be able to maintain your motivation even when things are going rough along the way. The path to a new body is not an easy path. This is for those who have some serious emotional healing to do and the best revenge for old slights and wounds is to come back more beautiful than ever before. If this motivation is what it takes for you to take off the pounds then this is the motivation to which you should cling.

        Religion is another common weight loss motivation. Some people believe the body should be treated as a temple. There is nothing wrong with this philosophy at all, though it takes some us longer to find our way to that line of thinking than others. Religion and faith are powerful motivators, as they have been known to bring healing to those in need by the power of their faith or their prayers. If your faith can give you the will power and strength you need in order to reach your dieting and weight loss goals then by all means lean on your faith and hold it close.

        No matter what motivation you have for dieting and losing weight if you find it is no longer working for you, then you need to find another motivator quickly. Without proper motivation it is quite unlikely that you will ever meet your weight loss goals.

        Some Straightforward Ways To Get Rid Of Excess Weight

        Everybody knows that diet, cutting down on caloric intake, and physical exercise, increasing calories burned, combine into a formula for weight loss

        But the hard part is sticking to a low calorie, and often bland, diet.  It won’t be easy, but with a little work it sure is possible. 

        Here are some tricks to make it easier.

        Carry a notebook to jot down everything that passes your lips.  Taking notes helps you eat less.  Studies show that folks who keep track of what they eat end up eating 15% less.  That’s significant.

        The typical American consumes an additional 245 calories per day just from drinks.  Make the switch to 0 calorie water.  245 calorie consumption a day is nearly 90,000 calories a year.  That is 25 lbs.  Water isn’t that bad, is it?  Another fact is that despite their calories, drinks like soda and juice don’t trigger a feeling of fullness the way foods do.

        Eat five or perhaps six scaled-down meals a day in lieu of three big meals per day.  Eating more meals with smaller portions results in eating 30% fewer calories.  Furthermore, even the same number of calories eaten in smaller portions during more frequent meals can result in weight loss.  You’re less likely to binge because the body releases less insulin.

        Make sure your wardrobe only includes the “skinny” clothes.  If you usually do not have clothing that’s comfy when you are over weight, you’re more likely to be reminded to continue to keep the weight off every time you dress.  And if you have to buy a whole new wardrobe you’re less likely to gain weight.

        Use smaller plates.  It’s proven that people eat what’s in front of them.  Use the salad plates instead of dinner plates.

        Similar to the idea of using smaller plates, serve your food on the plate rather than in bowls on the table.  Again, people tend to eat what’s in front of them.

        Don’t eat white bread, sugar or white rice.  Those are the foods with loads of carbohydrates which lead to higher blood sugar and weight gain.  Do eat whole grain breads and brown rice.  Don’t be uneasy with the sugar, pretty soon you won’t miss it.

        Weight loss isn’t easy, but relatively speaking there are easy ways to lose weight.  Don’t think it won’t take a little work.  If weight loss were effortless everyone would be slim all the time.

        I'm trying to lose 10-15 pounds, i'm looking for some diet & exercise tips?
